James Corden thanks BTS fans for donating thousands towards children’s charity

James Corden has thanked BTS fans for donating money towards a children’s charity that he supports, enabling the organisation to provide 14,000 breakfasts for children in need.

Magic Breakfast is a London-based charity that offers nutritious breakfasts to disadvantaged children across the UK.

The organisation has previously received support from Corden, who in December 2019 made a donation that provided 1,000 vulnerable families with breakfasts throughout the Christmas period and 1,330 children with healthy breakfasts for an entire year.

On Tuesday 28 January, K-pop group BTS, whose fanbase spans across the globe, appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

After the appearance on the talk show, one of their fans shared a message on Twitter urging fellow BTS enthusiasts to donate money towards the charity.

“So James Corden treats BTS and ARMY always so kindly and makes everyone feel welcomed at this show,[sic]” the tweet read.

“There is a charity called @magicbreakfast that he supports. Maybe we could donate there to say thank you!”

Corden shared a tweet expressing his thanks for their kind gesture.

“Oh man. This BTS army is real and full of love and it’s great!” he wrote.

“You have no idea how many children you have helped. Thank you thank you thank you x.”

The Twitter account for Magic Breakfast then joined in the conversation, revealing the extent to which the donations made by the BTS fans benefited the organisation within a day.

“We can tell you @JKCorden. Just this morning @BTS_Army have donated enough to provide over 14,000 Magic Breakfasts for disadvantaged children. #BTS_Army you are phenomenal!”

On the Magic Breakfast website, it states that for every 30p donated, a nutritious breakfast can be provided to a child who may otherwise go without.

Therefore, in order to provide 14,000 breakfasts, the donations made by the BTS fanbase would have totalled approximately £4,200.

If one should choose to donate towards Magic Breakfast, a £4.88 donation can provide one month of breakfasts in addition to “wrap-around support”, the organisation outlines.

A £15 donation can provide 50 breakfasts while a £58.50 donation can provide a year of breakfasts and support for children.

During their appearance on The Late Late Show, BTS took part in a game of hide-and-seek with Corden and actor Ashton Kutcher.

They also delivered their first ever live televised performance of the band's new single “Black Swan”, in addition to discussing their forthcoming album Map of the Soul: 7.

While taking part in a recent interview with The New Yorker, Corden explained why he called out comedian and TV host Bill Maher for making fat-shaming comments.

The Cats star said Maher’s remarks were “out of touch with actual people”, stating: “You cannot forget what most people’s lives are like.”
