Snowdonia, Scottish Highlands and Loch Ness: The 20 best views in Britain revealed

The view from the summit of mount Snowdon has been named the best in Britain.

From Stonehenge to Loch Ness, a nationwide poll revealed the top 20 greatest British views - and it was the awe-inspiring sight of the lake Llyn Llydaw within Snowdonia National Park that was voted number one.

The highest peak in Wales took first place in a poll of more than 2,500 people, ahead of the Three Sisters Mountains in the Glencoe Valley, Scotland and Stonehenge.

Two other Scottish locations made the top 10 - a view of Loch Ness from Dores, in the Highlands, and a view of Loch Lomond from Conic Hill, Dunbartonshire.

These were followed by St Ives Bay in Cornwall, Cheddar Gorge in Somerset, Buttermere in the Lake Dsitrict and Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland.

The data also pinpointed the five key factors that make up a quintessentially British view including rolling countryside (42%), rugged coastlines (21%), country villages (20%), historical landmarks (15%) and spires, cathedrals and architecture (15%).

Despite that, one city image made it into the ten – the view across Westminster Bridge in London and the Houses of Parliament.

Other incredible views that were celebrated are Ben Nevis in Scotland, Edinburgh from Arthur’s Seat, the Brecon Beacons and Bournemouth pier and beach.

Celebrating the most incredible sights, both ancient and modern, in the UK today the study was specially commissioned to mark the forthcoming launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S8.

A new photography project from Matthew Cattell – Britain’s reigning landscape photographer of the year – has also been commissioned and will be shot on the smartphone.
