Insure your royal wedding street party
People organising street parties to celebrate the royal wedding on 29 April are being offered one-off event insurance by Zurich.
For a premium of £63.60, Zurich will insure against a public liability claim for a street party attended by up to 200 people. Additional cover can include hired items such as tables, marquees and generators. Zurich says that people buying the insurance will be able to use it for the nationwide "Big Lunch" event on 5 June.
"By ensuring that individuals have access to the right insurance for these types of events, we aim to remove any potential barriers to them taking pace and provide the peace of mind to enable all to focus on enjoying the festivities," said Paul Emery, the head of community and social organisations at Zurich.
However, one-off event insurance is nothing new, particularly with the growing risk of organisers being sued if an attendee suffers injury or if organisers have to cancel an event. Insurance brokers regularly provide cover for everything from weddings to village fetes. The British Insurance Brokers Association website has a list of authorised insurance brokers at biba.org.uk.
