The Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy is to marry his longterm partner Sarah Gurling this summer, the couple said today.
Kennedy and Gurling, who have been together for four years, became engaged during the New Year holiday at Kennedy's family home Fort William in northwestern Scotland.
"We have not yet decided exactly when and where we shall marry, though we are planning to have a summer wedding," Kennedy, 42, said in a statement.
"I am enormously looking forward to getting married. This is a very happy day which I hope others can enjoy with us."
Gurling, 31, who works for national lottery operator Camelot, said she was "extremely happy."
"Like any couple, making such an important decision has changed our lives in a way that is founded in love and friendship," she said.
