Regional powerhouse South Africa is growing impatient with Zimbabwe, urging leaders in its troubled northern neighbor to resolve political tensions in time for elections expected next year.

In an interview today, spokesman Vincent Magwenya said South African President Jacob Zuma made that point to Zimbabwe's delegation at a mini-summit earlier in the week.

Magwenya says that while Zimbabwean leaders have been announcing agreements and pledging themselves to continue negotiating on some of the most contentious issues, Zuma "is quite keen to see them implementing those agreements. They now need to move quickly."

Magwenya says Zuma does not want tensions to undermine the 2011 elections.
