Letter: Irritation over apples
Sir: It used to be possible to avoid buying apples with nasty little sticky labels on them; now it is almost impossible. What do they cost to produce and stick on? How much does this add to the cost of the apples? Have the producers considered the consumers who have to remove the labels before the apples can be washed, sometimes with the result that the apple becomes scarred? Even worse, how many visually impaired people have actually eaten these unhygienic bits of paper?
Why label every apple, when the brand name is already advertised on the container? What next? A sticky label on every grape, every cherry?
Yours faithfully,
CAROLINE BURROWS
