From Mr Simon Neller Sir: Your "quote of the weekend" (23 January) has John Burridge saying: "The pitch was playable. I've been in football over 25 years and it's become a game for poofters."

Can I point that the gay Stonewall Football Club's third XI played a West End League fixture on a Somme-like Regent's Park on Sunday afternoon, therefore challenging his theory that a player's sexual orientation has any connection with getting muddy knees.
